You can see movies for just $3 on this National Cinema Day!

In celebration of "National Cinema Day," movie tickets in most American theaters will be only $3

On Sunday, the Cinema Foundation, a non-profit arm of the National Association of Theater Owners, announced that Sept. 3 would be a nationwide discount day.

Several major chains and studios are participating, including AMC and Regal Cinemas.

All participating theaters will charge no more than $3 for every showing.

The Labor Day weekend is traditionally one of the slowest weekends for theaters.

Nevertheless, National Cinema Day could flood theaters with moviegoers and encourage them to return in the fall, if it is successful.

This summer, movie theater business returned to nearly pre-pandemic levels after more than two years of a pandemic.

As a trial event, National Cinema Day may turn into an annual event, according to event organizers.
